Frutech presents itself as the Mediterranean trade fair
The countdown to the third edition of Frutech – Mediterranean Fruit & Vegetable Expo has officially begun. This international event dedicated to technology, sustainability, and global markets for fruit and vegetables will be held from November 25 to 27, 2026, at the SiciliaFiera exhibition center in Misterbianco (CT), consolidating its position as a strategic event for the sector’s agroecological transition. The lead-up to this event has already reached key milestones, bringing the Frutech project to the sector’s key venues and will continue to develop through further promotional events, designed to directly engage Sicilian consortia with dedicated group exhibits.
Frutech 2026 aims to surpass the already significant results of 2025, which attracted approximately 150 exhibitors and nearly 4,000 qualified visitors. Significant attention will be paid to internationalization thanks to the collaboration with the Italian Trade Agency (ITA). An incoming program is already planned, bringing 30 qualified professionals from 15 countries to Sicily, including nations from Eastern Europe, the Balkans, Latin America, and the Gulf.
In addition to the exhibition area, Frutech will offer a rich program of technical and scientific conferences on crucial topics such as varietal innovation, digitalization, and mechanization. The “University Students Meet Business” project, aimed at facilitating the transfer of skills between academia and production, has also been renewed. With the support of institutional partners such as MASAF, ICE (Italian Trade Agency), and the main trade associations, Frutech 2026 is poised to be a crucial crossroads for the future of Italian and Mediterranean agriculture.
The journey began last April with participation in Macfrut 2026, where Frutech coordinated a large Sicilian group of 28 partners and 10 exhibitors. At this international showcase, the island’s excellence was represented by companies operating in the fields of technical inputs, nursery gardening, seeds, and agri-food. It was also here that the sixth edition of Tomato Excellent, the initiative dedicated to Sicilian tomatoes, was announced. The official awards ceremony will take place in November 2026 during the Catania fair.

The local presence continued in May with a presence at the OrtoDirillo Exhibition in Vittoria, Ragusa. In this context, Frutech reaffirmed its commitment to agronomic and technological innovation applied to protected horticulture, a vital segment of Southern Italy’s agricultural economy.
The promotional activities culminated on June 18, 2026, with the official presentation of Frutech 2026 in Rome, at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty, and Forestry (MASAF). The meeting highlighted Sicily’s natural position as a technological hub for the entire Mediterranean. The numbers, moreover, show that Sicily is the leading Italian region in terms of fruit and vegetable production value and the national leader in organic acreage, with a PDO economy exceeding €550 million and a portfolio of 67 Geographical Indication products.
